Journal 2

“In your estimation, how effective is your resource guide for incoming freshman?”

“What do you wish you had known?” This is the question that I am using to create my resource guide. My resource guide will be extremely effective for incoming freshman because ever facet was hand chosen with them in mind. I understand the struggles and questions that an entering political science major may be faced with. Questions like, “what is political science,” “what outside resource can I use to stay informed,” or “what opportunities are out there for a political science major?” My guide will answer all of these questions and more. It was suggested in class that in addition to the requested parts of our website, we include other materials that could be beneficial. I will include a major scheme as well as a list of contact information for the political science department. It is my hope that by including contact information, I can at least point them in the direction to find what they are looking for if there is a specific question that my guide does not answer.

I think this was a great journal prompt, chiefly because if forces students to consider who is the audience of their resource guide. It is easy to want to make your website appealing in an effort to merit a good grade from your professor, but in reality, this guide is not for them. The true audience is the incoming political science majors who will be just a s lost as I once was. It is my hope that through answering this prompt, I will critically assesse the various aspects of my guide to ensure that they will be useful to my audience.
