The Collection

        Making Connections are assignment that encourage students to consider writing as it relates to the larger world and current events. Writing for these events is different other writing in that you are not only elaborating on an observation, but also "connecting" them to what one thinks of them and how they relate to writing. In doing this, you are forced to consider the many different avenues of writing such as journalistic writing, policy writing, song writing, or any other type of writing the relates to the even in question.

          This was my first time being asked to write in this way. A challenge that arose was find a way to relate different kinds of events to writing. What I have learned through these assignments is that every occupation and profession has an aspect of it that is related to writing.

          The format of these assignments is I first summarize the event and then elaborate on how it relates to writing in any particular field. The writing in this section is not particularly formal, but is similar to that with in the Journal section.
